If we talk about where the Hindu religion is heading, then it depends on our personality as Hindus. Religion is just the path to the goal, explained by "Moksartham Jagadhita Ya Ca Ithi Dharma" ("The purpose of religion or Dharma is to attain Jagadhita and Moksa"). Religion comes from the word "A" which means "not" and the word "Gam" meaning "changing", so religion is eternal. Even if there may be a moral shift amongst its adherents, then it is not the fault of religion or religious concept, but rather the understanding of its followers. That which is called Dharma Wacana, or Dharma guidance, should not be different, whoever may be receiving or giving them. People should be able to understand that which is called Dharma guidance as opposed to Adharma talks. Dharma guidance talks are related to Truth, which enables listeners to feel calm, comfortable, and happy, allowing their hearts to move; to make a change towards goodness. If Dharma guidance talks would be confusing and unsettling, it would be called Adharma talks. Having in mind the many sources of literature and Holy Scriptures, there would, of course, be slight differences between each person conducting Dharma guidance talks. For example, if we talk about rice in Dharma guidance talks, one could say that rice is used to make rice. This is certainly true but if anyone says it can ONLY be used to make rice then that is certainly wrong. Rice can also be used for snacks, porridge and so on. So, the level of insight and depth given in Dharma Guidance talks depend on the level of understanding and wisdom of the person conducting the talks.
The Holy Scriptures are subjects of the mind and we are the ones that have to translate it through the mind. I wish to clarify that there is no restriction for anyone to study Holy Scriptures, but, there are a few important requirements. Within the Hindu religious framework, there are three requirements, namely: Tatwa (Philosophy), Susila (Ethical, Moral) and Upacara (Ceremonial). If we learn the Hindu Philosophies then we must also include the ethical, moral and ceremonial requirements. However I think it's unnecessary to amend Holy Scriptures. Hindu religious literature was written by our ancestors who reached very high spiritual levels and holiness so the Hindu religious literature include "Atita, Nagata Wartamana" which is 'the past, present and future". In daily life, on the basis of religious life and religious literature we are already working dynamically, adjusting to the conditions of our time. A small example: In the past, the fruits we used for offerings were kepundung, jambu, sentul (common Bali village fruits). Today, they might be replaced with apple, mangosteen, oranges and so on. This is not wrong. In the Hindu scriptures, it is described that we should offer with fruits so, apart from some exceptions, other fruits may be used instead of what was initially used. The Hindu religious scriptures are universal, covering all aspects of life, from the seen world (sekala), the unseen world (niskala) and the larger scale of the cosmos. So, if we are not able to understand the Hindu scripture that is not a reason to change it. We, ourselves, have to know and understand the glorious values that are embedded there. We do not need to make such changes. The Hindu religion is a religion of unity, because the Vedas protect and boost the values of its local culture, combined with the values of the sacred Vedas. If we amend the religious scriptures and create one book of amendments to equate all, then we do not have religious revelation or realization, but religious culture. The Hindu religion supports cultural differences in equality, without flattening out and assimilating all the differences. If all are created equal, for example, in making the same offerings, carving the same carvings - then the elements of creativity, as part of developing a sense of creativity and initiative for mankind, cannot progress. In addition, it is not also necessarily possible to properly implement the same exact ceremonies in areas with different conditions and natural environments.
Religion is a path to enlightenment, and if I return to the Panca Sraddha - The five pillars of belief in Hinduism as the basis for Existence - God (Brahman), the Soul (Atman), the law of Karma (Karmaphala), Reincarnation (Punarbhawa / Samsara) and the unity of the Soul and God (Moksa), each individual would have a different understanding and thinking, depending on the evolution of the Soul (Atman). Therefore, religion serves as a guide to the people, in order to avoid a collapse. We cannot expect everyone to be good, holy, or have a high spiritual conscience, because everyone is on a different journey. With the advancement of today's technology and information, I believe the number of people who want to learn and get closer to the path of Dharma will increase. It is wrong for people to try to make everything uniform. Similarly, the uniformity of religious literature or trying to uniformly create ceremonies, is just a sign of not being familiar or understanding the values of Hindu teachings. Yadnya ceremonies are pure and sincere offerings. I often convey that to proceed with Yadnya there are four terms to fulfill, namely: Willingness, Capability, Situation and Circumstances, supported by Holy Scriptures or Literature (Sastra). The ability to perform Yadnya ceremonies are not just a matter of material necessities but also the ability to interpret and practice the true messages of moral and value, within the Yadnya ceremonies, so that the value of the spiritual Yadnya is implemented. In Hindu religion there are no troublesome elements. What makes for difficulties are misconceptions of the religious implementation. Therefore, it is the duty of us all, especially the Wiku and Sulinggih (High Priests and other Holy men and women) to give guidance to the people, so that they will be able to understand and implement the teachings correctly.
